Privacy policy
In short: FolkKeep doesn't collect your data. The people, updates and reminders you add are stored on your iPhone and are not sent to us. There is no account, no advertising and no analytics.
What FolkKeep stores
FolkKeep stores what you choose to enter: people's names, how they relate to you and to each other, birthdays, groups, notes, updates, follow-ups, holidays they celebrate and your app settings. All of it is kept in a database on your device. We have no server that receives it and no way to see it.
What we collect
Nothing. FolkKeep has no account system and includes no analytics, advertising or tracking software. We don't sell or share personal information, because we never receive any.
Voice notes
When you use the microphone, FolkKeep uses Apple's speech recognition to turn your words into text. On iPhones that support it, this happens on the device. On others, Apple may process the audio on its servers under Apple's privacy policy. FolkKeep doesn't keep recordings; only the text you confirm is saved.
Permissions FolkKeep asks for
- Microphone and speech recognition, only when you start a voice note.
- Notifications, to remind you about birthdays, follow-ups and holidays. Reminders are scheduled on your phone.
- Face ID, if you turn on the app lock. FolkKeep never sees your face data; iOS only tells the app whether unlocking succeeded.
- Photos, only when you choose to save an image such as your sky card.
You can change any of these in the iPhone Settings app.
Backups and sharing
You can export a backup file from Settings. That file goes wherever you choose to save or send it, and it contains the information you've added, so keep it somewhere you trust. Images you share, like your sky card, go only where you send them.
Widgets
FolkKeep's widgets show what's coming up using data shared between the app and its widgets on your device. It doesn't leave your phone.
Deleting your data
Use Settings → Delete all data in the app, or delete the app. Either removes everything FolkKeep stored on your phone. Backup files you exported are yours to delete.
Children
FolkKeep isn't directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.
Changes
If a future version adds something that works differently, such as optional sync between devices, it will be off unless you turn it on, and we'll update this page before it ships.
